چکیده

The Spencer Gulf penaeid prawn fishery in South Australia has undergone a substantial increase in fishing efficiency (and profitability) mainly due to the implementation of adaptive harvest strategies requiring rapid response for change to harvesting plans. This paper describes the management background and the decision-making process leading to the development of a basic Decision Support System (DSS) that uses spatial information techniques and near real-time fishery-independent survey data. The system is implemented through linking an Oracle database to ArcGIS, Genstat and Splus. Two examples show the application of the DSS for optimal harvest timing and assessment of fishery sustainability. Fishery-independent survey data are used to assess stock and model population growth. The first example shows the information flow leading to a dynamic stock model and the estimate of value change as a function of harvest time. The second example shows how the DSS is used to validate and refine existing biological reference limits by evaluating long-term detailed data sets of the prawn population structure and catch dynamics. We conclude that it is important for the economic benefit and sustainability of the fishery to maintain and improve the collection of long-term data sets that are independent of commercial fishery statistics. 2005 Elsevier Ltd. By-Catch and Discard Composition of Dhow Penaeid Trawl Fisheries in Hormuzgan Province, the Northern Persian Gulf

The present study aims to recognize dhow prawn trawl by-catch from Hormuzgan coastal waters (Northeast Persian Gulf). Sampling was carried out of 36 hauls by using traditionally wooden dhow among prawn fishing season in 2011. The catch composition consisted of 31.66% target species prawns, mainly banana prawn (Penaeus merguiensis) and 68.34% by-catch. The total by-catch was 4,622.67kg com...

A Decision Support System (DSS) to Select the Premier Fuel to Develop in the Value Chain of Natural Gas

A value chain is a series of events that takes a raw material and with each step adds value to it. Global interest in the application of natural gas (NG) in production and transportation has grown dramatically, representing a long-term, low-cost, domestic, and secure alternative to petroleum-based fuels. Many technological solutions are currently considered on the market or in development, whic...

Application of Rough Set Theory in Data Mining for Decision Support Systems (DSSs)

Decision support systems (DSSs) are prevalent information systems for decision making in many competitive business environments. In a DSS, decision making process is intimately related to some factors which determine the quality of information systems and their related products. Traditional approaches to data analysis usually cannot be implemented in sophisticated Companies, where managers ne...
